Smith Mountain Lake is not just known for its scenic beauty and abundant recreational opportunities, but also its numerous culinary gems.

The Copper Kettle Co. is one such restaurant making waves at SML for its delicious cuisine and outstanding service, as well as its warm and inviting atmosphere.

Conveniently located at LakeWatch Plantation, just two miles west of Bridgewater Plaza, The Copper Kettle offers a comfortable and inviting environment and a dining experience that focuses on quality and hospitality.

The Menu: A Taste of Craftsmanship

The menu at The Copper Kettle Co. is extensive and diverse with a broad selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts.

From beef dishes like meatloaf, ribeye and filet steaks to an array of seafood entrees, including catfish, popcorn shrimp and mahi-mahi, there’s something to suit every palate.

Those with a hankering for Italian flavors can indulge in shrimp scampi, lasagna, chicken parmigiana and more. Home-cooked classics like roast turkey, southern-fried pork chop, Salisbury steak and shrimp and grits add a touch of familiarity.

At the helm of the culinary team is Chef Sonny DiPaula, affectionately known as Sonny D—a seasoned chef who exudes a welcoming personality and a distinctive New Jersey accent.

With prices ranging from $10 to $38, The Copper Kettle accommodates various budgets, too. Plus, you can break up the monotony of the work week and enjoy a tasty deal every Wednesday and Thursday night.

Insider Tip: Head to The Copper Kettle on Wednesdays for half-priced burgers.

On Wednesdays, indulge in Chef Sonny’s handcrafted, half-pound burgers at half price. They’re made with premium beef, topped with gooey cheese and loaded with fresh toppings. Pair them with my favorite side, crispy sweet potato fries. Yummo!

Every Thursday is Prime Rib Night where you can enjoy a succulent 14-ounce cut of prime rib with rosemary au jus, baked potato and house vegetable.

A Top Spot for Brunch at Smith Mountain Lake

For brunch enthusiasts, The Copper Kettle Co. offers a fabulous buffet on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Chef Sonny switches up the menu but you can be sure to find eggs, sausage, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, cheesy grits (my guilty pleasure) and pancakes.

There’s also Mimosa buckets (one bottle of prosecco and your choice of orange, peach or pineapple juice) and a Bloody Mary bar. They pour the vodka and you create your own masterpiece from items such as lemons, limes, olives, celery, pickles, banana peppers, jalapenos and a variety of hot sauces.

The Atmosphere: Plenty of Places to Chill

One of the standout features of The Copper Kettle Co. is its charming setting with spacious, warm and inviting dining areas, both indoors and outdoors.

With its relaxing, cosmopolitan feel, the restaurant’s interior sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. It offers ample tables and booths, plus a private banquet room for up to 40 people.

The Copper Kettle’s commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere extends to its bar, where a variety of beers, wines and cocktails are served. Comfortable seating makes it an ideal space to enjoy drinks and bites while watching various sporting events on the surrounding TVs.

You can also unwind with drinks and food on the outdoor deck, which features incredible sunsets and views of the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains. A new sail-type cover overhead, outdoor heaters and cozy fire pits make the deck a year-round option. It’s also a great spot to catch live music during the warmer months.
