Bedford Festival of Trees
Nov. 25-Jan. 5, 2024
Celebrate the spirit of the holidays at the 16th Festival of Trees at the Bedford Area Welcome Center. This annual event showcases beautiful trees from local businesses and community organizations, each uniquely decorated. Stroll through the displays, pick your favorite and cast your vote—all while supporting local charities. Hours vary, so be sure to check the website for details.

Come Home to a Franklin County Christmas
Dec. 7, 2024
Enjoy a magical evening at this free and fun-filled event in Downtown Rocky Mount. Now in its 21st year, the festival takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes a parade, tree lighting, dancers, live music, plus food and craft vendors. The Rocky Mount Train Depot transforms into the North Pole with festive games, inflatables and a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Christmas Parades
Dec. 7, 2024
The Central Virginia Business Coalition will host the Bedford Christmas Parade and Community Christmas Tree Lighting. The parade will wind through the streets of downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tree lighting event kicks off at 3 p.m. with a visit from Santa, local vendors, children’s activities, live performances and music. Officials will light the town’s tree at 6 p.m.
Dec. 8, 2024
Kick off the holiday season at the annual Christmas Parade in Downtown Rocky Mount. This year’s theme, “Christmas Magic,” will showcase local floats, performers and community groups as they parade through town from 3 to 5 p.m. Organized by the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount, this festive tradition is a short drive from Smith Mountain Lake and ideal for all ages.
Bethlehem: A Christmas Musical
Dec. 12-15, 2024
Join EastLake Community Church for a musical retelling of the Nativity story. Enjoy a theatrical journey featuring Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men and an angel, bringing to life the story of Jesus’ birth. Come early for family-friendly fun with Santa photos, cookie decorating and Christmas vendors. Showtimes vary, doors open two hours early and tickets are free.

Home for the Holidays Concert
Dec. 13, 2024
Get in the holiday spirit at this festive concert featuring David Stewart Wiley, Maestro of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra; acclaimed violinist Akemi Takayama; and Rev. Philip Bouknight, celebrated for his Oratorio performances across the U.S. and abroad. Sponsored by the Smith Mountain Arts Council, the event starts at 7 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish and promises an evening of joyful music to usher in the season.
Steel Drum Bands Holiday Concert

Enjoy festive tunes with an island vibe at the SML Steel Drum Bands’ Family Holiday Concert. This lively event, held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Scruggs Volunteer Fire, Rescue & Dive HQ building, will feature a performance of popular holiday songs and a baked goods sale to benefit the first response organization. Food and beverage also available for purchase.
