The Discovery Shop at Smith Mountain Lake has been a cherished part of the community for 20 years, raising nearly $5 million for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Located near Westlake Corner, the shop offers a constantly changing selection of gently-used furniture, electronics, artwork, jewelry and more—all in a bright and welcoming space.

What truly sets The Discovery Shop apart is its focus on household goods rather than clothing, and its distinction as the first all-volunteer Discovery Shop in the nation. Volunteers, many of whom are cancer survivors, pour their time and energy into supporting the shop, with every dollar of profit going directly to ACS research and patient programs.

The Discovery Shop opened in fall 2004 with more than 200 dedicated volunteers, unwavering community support and enthusiastic shoppers. A key to the shop’s success is its strong connection to the High Point Furniture Market, an association which began in 2005. Donations from exhibitors have grown to make up nearly half of the shop’s revenue, adding a touch of luxury to the pre-loved treasures you’ll also find.

Whether you’re a local or are visiting the lake, the SML Discovery Shop is a place to uncover unique finds while making a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
