SML Wedding Profile: Mackenzie & Denton

Mackenzie and Denton Prillaman’s love story began long before most—starting as childhood friends at Roanoke Valley Christian Schools. Though a grade apart, their bond deepened in junior high when they began serving together in children’s ministry. By the time they were teenagers, their friendship had blossomed into romance. 

“We’ve been growing up together ever since,” Mackenzie said.

Their love story continued through college at Liberty University, and in February 2019, Denton proposed on the dock of Mackenzie’s family’s home on Smith Mountain Lake. The couple planned an April 2020 wedding in Roanoke, but as with many couples during that time, their plans were upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When their original venue became unavailable, Mackenzie and Denton didn’t want to put their plans on hold. Instead, they chose to have an intimate ceremony at her parents’ lake house—a place filled with happy memories.

“We got married in the same spot where Denton proposed,” Mackenzie said. “It was the best and sweetest wedding, and we live-streamed it so all of our family and friends could celebrate along with us.”

A few months later, the couple returned to Bridgewater Plaza for a styled photoshoot.

“We’ve spent so much time at Bridgewater over the years,” Mackenzie said. “We always stop by Moosie’s for lunch, grab a coffee at SML Coffee House and of course, feed the carp at Bridgewater Marina.”
