The Smith Mountain Lake Insiders’ Guide has been the premier resource for those looking to vacation at or relocate to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, since 1998.
And that’s not a typo!
The site was developed by the late Brian Raub at the dawn of the internet. He transferred ownership to us – long-time SML residents and business partners Andie Gibson and Jennifer Church – in 2021 shortly before passing away of a rare form of cancer.
In May 2024, we launched a quarterly print magazine that celebrates SML in all four seasons! This full-color, glossy publication is distributed for free in racks around the region and online as a digital flipbook.
This endeavor is the perfect fit for us because we absolutely love the SML community and all it has to offer for vacationers and residents.
In fact, we met while working for the Smith Mountain Laker Magazine (Andie as Editor and Jennifer as Creative Director) where we shared stories of what makes SML special: its breathtaking beauty, fun-filled special events, dedicated small business owners, unique residents and incredible recreational opportunities.
For the past two decades, you’d be as apt to find us with our families at Franklin County High School football games or band practices, Troop 130 scout meetings and volunteering at a variety of local events as you would enjoying a Sunday afternoon beverage at Portside.
We’re also passionate advocates for the the local business community and active with the SML Regional Chamber of Commerce where Andie served on the Board of Directors and as President.
We’re thrilled this website and magazine offer us an additional way to sing the praises of Smith Mountain Lake’s many amazing small businesses, as well as the importance and advantages of shopping local.
