Introducing Healing Words: A New SML Nonprofit Bringing Hope to the Transplant Community
Launch celebration set for March 7 at Hot Shots Pavilion
A powerful new source of hope and support is taking root at Smith Mountain Lake.
We’re excited to share the launch of Healing Words, a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit created by local residents Tim Pearson and Dana Montgomery to support transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, and caregivers throughout our region.
The inspiration for Healing Words comes directly from Tim’s personal transplant story—a journey filled with fear, faith, community support and, ultimately, a lifesaving miracle. In 2025, Tim faced end-stage liver failure and underwent a life-saving transplant thanks to a deceased organ donor. His full story, shared in the foundation’s Founders’ Story, reflects the emotional and practical challenges so many families experience during transplant.
Through that experience, Tim and Dana realized just how much the transplant community needs beyond medical care. People need connection. They need encouragement. They need to know they’re not alone.
“Dana and I felt called to start Healing Words to honor donors, uplift every voice, and remind recipients and families that they’re never walking this path alone,” Tim shared.
