Whether you’re a weekend vacationer or a longtime resident, you’ll find a variety of services to nurture both body and mind. Some facilities focus on dynamic workouts and strength training while others offer gentle yoga, mindfulness and restorative treatments. 

For those looking to refresh their routine, SML Insiders has curated a list of fitness centers, personal training studios and wellness specialists. With so many options, there’s no reason not to stay on track—or even start a new wellness journey—right here at the lake.

Body Shoppe Fitness + AllCore360°

Consistently voted one of the top workout spots at SML, Body Shoppe Fitness provides personal training, small group training, an infrared sauna and access to the innovative AllCore360° machine.

This patented technology strengthens core muscles through a no-impact, isometric and balanced approach, helping to improve posture and balance, reduce neck and lower back pain, support injury recovery and boost overall fitness. The first three AllCore360° sessions are free.

Body Shoppe Fitness also offers Doterra products, including essential oils, and Beverly International nutritional supplements.

CrossFit SML

Conveniently located for residents and visitors on the Bedford side of the lake, CrossFit SML provides expert coaching within group classes designed to enhance physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. Their motto? “There are no limitations within our walls.”

Memberships are flexible with month-to-month renewal and no contracts. Experienced CrossFitters visiting the area can drop in for a class ($20) or purchase a weekly pass ($60). Yoga with Ash classes start at $15.

Crosswhite offers outdoor pickleball courts and organized open plays for the fastest growing sport in America. Additional amenities include two swimming pools, a therapy pool, sauna and swim lessons, creating a family-friendly environment for active lifestyles.

LAT Wellness Studio

Located just north of Hales Ford Bridge, LAT Wellness Studio offers personal training, employee wellness programs and small group exercise classes. They’re committed to affordable and accessible wellness options for all walks of life.

Virtual personal training options and group exercise classes make it possible to stay active and accountable from anywhere. Group exercise classes include yoga, barre, mat pilates, myofascial stretch and body strength. Founder Laurie Andrews shares her mission: “To help others find the desire and strength to be healthy.”

Full Distance Physical Therapy & Wellness

Located at The Centre at Mariners Landing, Full Distance offers a comprehensive range of wellness and fitness services tailored to individual needs. Services include physical and occupational therapy for all ages, addressing recovery, chronic conditions, lymphedema, vertigo and more with personalized treatment plans.

Companion care provides support with daily activities, enhancing quality of life. The facility also features a fully-equipped gym, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness classes and personal training for all fitness levels. Certified trainers guide clients toward their goals, and massage therapy is available to aid in relaxation and recovery.

SML YMCA

Located in Lakewatch Plantation between Westlake and Hales Ford Bridge, the SML branch of the Franklin County Family YMCA provides a variety of fitness options, including indoor racquetball, basketball, pickleball and tennis courts.

The facility features a fully-equipped gym with recently upgraded machines and licensed fitness trainers. Tennis lessons for kids (free) and adults, as well as pickleball lessons also are offered. Members also enjoy complimentary childcare.

Many gyms offer tours where you can check out the equipment, locker rooms and layout. Seeing it firsthand can give you a better feel for the facility’s overall vibe.

Underground Fitness

Located on the back lower level of Westlake Plaza, Underground Fitness provides a clean, welcoming space equipped with top-tier cardio and resistance machines—all at an affordable price. With keyless entry, members can access the facility from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., 365 days a year.

Amenities include a cardio room with wireless entertainment, a free weight area with matted flooring and full locker rooms, making it convenient to visit before or after work or errands. New members receive one free hour of personal training, and the facility accepts Silver Sneakers Fitness Program.

Yoga with Ash

Nature enthusiast Ash Renae Earick provides holistic mind, body and spirit training with regular weekly classes at CrossFit SML and LAT Wellness Studio.

Passionate about empowering others with tools to regulate the nervous system, embrace emotions and heal from trauma—experiences she’s navigated herself with the support of her yoga practice—Earick offers a range of sessions. These include yoga for all levels, sound meditations, hike-and-yoga excursions as well as personalized in-home private sessions for families and groups.
